Axiom For Kids: Cushions
Inspired By Kids
Children’s developing bodies have different positioning needs and come in different shapes and sizes then adults. The Axiom for Kids wheelchair cushions are designed for the smallest growing clients using a science-based design approach. Available on all Ki pediatric mobility bases! Axiom G
Anything but Basic.
A General Use cushion offering all the Axiom Difference design features. With its Pre-contoured shape, surface tension reducing well and high-quality foam and cover materials, it is sure to be the professional’s choice for years to come.
The unique hexagonal foam shapes in the well reduce surface tension and increase envelopment around the ischia and coccyx. By only using one pleated cover, surface tension is reduced, providing better immersion into the well.
Axiom P
Positioning Made Easy.
A Positioning cushion offering the Axiom Difference design elements with an emphasis on medial and lateral stability. With superior positioning features and surface tension reduction in the well, Axiom P proves positioning cushions can still be comfortable while providing positioning and stability.
The moderately contoured well supports the trochanters, transitioning the femurs into the leg troughs for medial and lateral stability. Axiom P’s pre-contoured shape promotes greater envelopment of the ischial tuberosities and coccyx for superior positioning.
Axiom S
Immerse Yourself.
A Skin Protection cushion offering the Axiom Difference design elements with an emphasis on immersion and envelopment, Axiom S is a great entry level skin protection cushion. With a special emphasis on the area that distributes pressure around the tissues that support the bony prominences.
Deeper hexagonal shapes allow for increased immersion with better envelopment making Axiom S a great entry level skin protection cushion.
Axiom SP Visco
Comfort. Positioning. Immersion.
Axiom SP Visco is designed to provide increased immersion, using a Viscoelastic Foam instead of the Hydrolite fluid bladder seen in the Axiom SP Fluid. Viscoelastic material is both viscous (changes shape slowly) and elastic (it returns to its original shape). It deforms and returns to shape very slowly. There is a significant lag between when you deform viscoelastic foam and when it returns to shape.
Because energy is effectively absorbed and dissipated during the time lag there is less reaction force pushing back after deformation. Axiom SP Visco is designed to provide increased immersion, allowing the trochanters to bear an effective load. This improves stability by widening the base of support and reduces the load the tissue must bear.
Axiom SP Fluid
Less Layers. More Envelopment.
Axiom SP Fluid is designed to provide increased immersion and envelopment, using a Hydrolite fluid bladder instead of the Viscoelastic Foam used in Axiom SP Visco. Hydrolite is a non-Newtonian fluid that behaves as a solid under the force of gravity, but flows as a viscous fluid under load, which can help minimize shear.
It is also incredibly light, eliminating the “weight penalty” of other fluid cushions. It is less temperature sensitive than other fluids, meaning it will provide more consistent performance regardless of climate. Axiom SP Fluid is designed to provide increased envelopment, allowing the trochanters to bear an effective load. This improves stability by widening the base of support and reduces the load the tissue that supports the Ischial Tuberosities must bear.
Axiom AS / ASP
The First Field Adjustable Lightweight Fluid Cushions.
Getting the optimum fit the first time is as easy as sitting with the Axiom AS and ASP. Both cushions incorporate a patented self-adjusting fluid system that uses a rider’s body weight and physical characteristics to control the amount of immersion and envelopment. The cushion allows the femurs, trochanters, and ischia to all be independently loaded, creating optimal pressure distribution and maximum stability. Once the desired fitting is achieved the adjustment can be locked in. The fitting can be readjusted if needs change but refitting solely for maintenance is unnecessary.
The Hydrolite® fluid is incredibly lightweight and less sensitive to temperature, maintaining performance consistency regardless of climate. Surface tension is significantly reduced by covering the cushion with our super 4-way stretch Lycra outer cover material, providing better immersion. In addition, the patented design features a dense layer of reticulated foam under a layer of spacer fabric to allow superior airflow and moisture control. The result is an easily adjustable cushion with an ideal fit and a cooler, drier skin interface for the rider.
